UMiami AAUP-University Employee Alliance

The UMiami AAUP-University Employee Alliance (AAUP-UEA) is the University of Miami advocacy chapter of the American Association of University Professors (AAUP).

The mission of the AAUP is “to advance academic freedom and shared governance; to define fundamental professional values and standards for higher education; to promote the economic security of faculty, academic professionals, graduate students, post‐doctoral fellows, and all those engaged in teaching and research in higher education; to help the higher education community organize to make our goals a reality; and to ensure higher education's contribution to the common good.” Our local UM AAUP-UEA chapter seeks to advance this mission within our university community.

We are an organization of teachers, scholars, scientists, doctors, lawyers, librarians, administrators, nurses, staffers, artists, and graduate students dedicated to advancing public scholarship, civic participation, and political action for a more just community.

Campus Advocacy: We work to support our UM colleagues and co-workers at every employee level with the interests of shared governance, academic freedom, equity, and inclusion.

Educational Outreach: We share and co-create new knowledge in the interest of more just and engaged communities in South Florida and beyond.

Civic Action: We support electoral and community engagement and take action for progressive ideals at local, state, and national levels.
